About me

Food & Travel

I have succeeded in turning my passion for travel into a job. Now I travel for a specific purpose: to put my knowledge to the service of strategies and projects.

I am professor of Marketing and Tourism Management at the University of Bergamo and my current researches mainly focus on gastronomy and cultural tourism.

I am currently member of the Board of Directors and certified Ambassador for Italy of the World Food Travel Association, as well as a member of the World Gastronomy Institute and of IGCAT – International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism.

I am the author of the “Report on Gastronomy Tourism in Italy” and the organizer of the “Food Tourism Day”, a series of conferences dedicated to gastronomy tourism that take place every year during BIT travel exhibition.

In addition, I am member of the Executive Board of SISTUR – the Italian Society of Tourism Sciences, and associated with ATLAS and AIEST, which are international scientific associations devoted to tourism. I am member of the Educational Scientific Committee of BTO  Buy Tourism Online and of Treccani Gusto and I am in the Technical Committee of The Grand Wine Tour.

I am committed to create a culture of collaboration that led me to share tourism marketing and management tools. That’s why I decided to make many of my researches free for those who are interested.

I also work as a consultant for public bodies and private companies, in Italy and abroad, in the field of destination management and promotion.

In past years, I did a number of pro bono works as to hopefully help my native city, Bergamo. I worked as general director of the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery – GAMeC and I was in the board of the “Amici dell’Accademia Carrara” association. I also successfully coordinated a project aimed at creating a local network of museums and a tourist card (“Bergamo card”).

From 2013 to 2014 I was the delegate for tourism in the Municipality of Bergamo, and I worked hard to consolidate the image of the city of Bergamo as a tourism destination.

I am also involved in social initiatives, being currently a member Sant’Alessandro Lions Club. I received also the Melvin Jones Fellow award.

In my past working experiences I also funded a private company, Global Management, that works in the filed of consulting and training also for Lombardy Region.
