The first UNWTO Global Youth Tourism Summit was launched in Italy to create a direct dialogue between young people and institutions on tourism and sustainability.
The originality of the format: the summit placed under-18 participants at the centre of the discussion rather than at the margins of it.
Why it matters: bringing younger generations into tourism debate helps broaden the horizon on responsibility, expectations and future behaviour.
The implication: youth participation can make tourism strategy more forward-looking and less self-referential.
