This study investigates sustainability in food and wine tourism and the role farms can play in improving the environmental, social and economic impact of tourism experiences.
Research basis: it draws on a 2023 survey involving more than 1,500 Italian tourists.
Key point: the research highlights a persistent gap between declared interest in sustainability and the behaviour actually adopted by travellers.
Operational implication: the CarTES project is presented as a tool for encouraging more sustainable practices among both visitors and tourism operators.
